Ice Storm

We got blasted with ice about three weeks ago.  Bond woke me up in the middle of the night in a panic.  He alerted me with the news that the power was out and that I needed to get out of bed because he was pretty sure a tree was about to fall on our bedroom.  We ran to the front entry way to examine the tree further, and saw that it was actually leaning towards the boy's room.  We got all the kids out of bed and "slept" on the couch together in the basement.
In the morning, after Bond and my dad chain sawed us out of the driveway, we took off in search of a generator and a warm place to eat lunch.....our house was freezing.  We managed to get the last generator and then ordered some lunch at Skid's before they started turning customers away.  It was pretty much the only place open and with power.
The next five days were full of excitement, with no power or running water.  Luckily we have friends close by for showers, and day two warmed up exponentially.
Tons of trees had fallen on our property, but thankfully none on the house. We were very fortunate.

The church had no power, so instead we had our other powerless friends, over for a hot dog roast.  The weather was beautiful.

We did school by the fire to keep warm.
Played at the park with friends.

And enjoyed ice cream cones at BK afterwards.

It was kinda fun and adventurous.  We learned a lot and did new things we wouldn't normally ever think to do. But, we were SOOOO glad when the power returned.

Brave Girl

Belle fell off a bench onto a tile floor at Bug's swim practice and it cause a hairline fracture in her forearm.
She had to wear a splint for a week while she waited to get her cast.
She was the perfect patient when getting casted.  She sat completely still and quietly watched the procedure.

I think the cast weighs almost as much as she does (well maybe not 23 pounds, but close).  She has been a trooper and doesn't seem to be slowed down by it.  We are on day 3 of 15 and it is already beginning to stink.  Yuck.

Harry Potter Party

Bond read the two first Harry Potter books to the boys and needless to say, they are very into Harry Potter now.  Bear decided that would be the theme for his 5th Birthday Party so we went all out "Potter Style".
Chocolate Frogs.
House Scarves.
Floating Candles.
Potter Glasses.
Magic Wands.
The Sorting Hat.
Bertie Botts Every Flavor Bean Cake.

We stuck a baby monitor in the sorting hat, while Bondy called out the kids assigned houses from down the hall.

Pin the Scar on Harry.

Hard Core Quidditch.  (the boys were meticulously planning out the rules and details of the game for weeks.)

Happy Birthday my sweet five year old.  We are SO lucky to have you in our family.

More Snow!

It is snowing here again tonight, which reminded me that I had never posted these pictures from last month.  I was so happy when we had enough snow to try out our hill.  The boys and I had a blast sledding down it.
